As i am, i try this, and to my surprise, my whole XP F(*&^%$ up. :idiot: Dont know where something went wrong, just make a back up before, something i didnt, so need to reinstall all again. NP at all, need a fresh install anyway. Just be carefull with it. Where it went wrong what i think is with the "RegCure". Luckely i got triple boot, XP Pro sp3, XP Performance 4 gaming "an advise" and windows 7. So my work is still accessible didnt lose any....... k: So what is wrong is, that it takes 20 minutes to load XP again, and none of the programs are working, all get dll errors. So bro's and sisses, be carefull, JUST MAKE A BACK-UP BE4 !!!!!!!! |

It's like anything else, you do have to be careful when running these utilities. Some of the Registry cleaner programs will actually remove neccessary entries for the likes of Windows Update and MS Office!! The bit that I love is that it costs almost $50 and the footnote on the last page says that they haven't tested all or any of the procedures. I need their job!! even though it is good advice. Msconfig is a useful utility but it doesn't show you everything that is being started. There are tools for that such as hijackthis from Trend but only use this IF YOU KOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. A good FREE registry scanner is from WISE and the free option works very well. DO NOT REMOVE anything marked Unsafe. A good FREE malware scanner is Malwarebytes but don't forget to run the update before using it. It does not go memory resident unless you purchase the full product so it is like a car wash. Run it and your machine is clean but as soon as you drive out of the carwash a little birdie could drop a message from the sky. Another good utility is GetBackData from Runtime software which can recover data from a disk, even if it has been formatted. You do need to purchase the product to recover the data but it may be useful to some of you IT support people out there. The question that I have is, would you mess with your engine management system to make your car run quicker, or would you bring it to the garage? Ok off my soapbox now!! lol |

I use malwarebytes and getdataback all the time the other tool you might need is combofix for the dreadful malware that masquerades as a anti-virus program |
